The Madeira Flower Festival (usually late April) transforms Funchal with flower carpets and parades. Coincides with the Atlantic Festival of Flowers — one of the island's most photogenic events.
How busy is it?
April is moderately busy — a shoulder-season sweet spot. Book accommodation 3-4 weeks ahead for popular areas. Trails are manageable but Pico Ruivo and Pico do Arieiro get busier on clear days.
